The Brussels Labour Prosecutor’s Office has called for a six-month suspended sentence for a former dog squad commissioner amid allegations of workplace harassment.
The individual is alleged, primarily, to have targeted two Jewish subordinates and made hurtful comments about a policewoman’s bereaved mother.
The case came to light in 2018 after the commissioner was accused of playing German martial songs in the presence of the two Jewish subordinates.
Additionally, he was said to have discriminated against certain officers for their perceived lack of work ethic, causing issues with team changes and leave requests.
The prosecution further contends that the man made repeated sexist remarks towards some of his female colleagues. He is also accused of making hurtful comments towards a female officer who lost her mother in tragic circumstances.
The defence has sought his acquittal, refuting all allegations.
The verdict is due on 20 December.
