The Royal Golf Club of Belgium in Tervuren has been evacuated over fears that armed burglars had taken refuge amongst its world-famous greenery, Het Laatste Nieuws (HLN) reports.
Local police officials, special federal units, and a police helicopter are currently at the scene. Two armed individuals are since reported to have been arrested.
"Officers informed us that there is danger due to an armed man, presumably a burglar, who is hiding in the green area around the golf complex," the owner of the golf club's restaurant told HLN.
This is not the first dramatic story to have hit the Flemish municipality over the last few days. Last week, a man posing as a school teacher attempted to kidnap a boy in the town centre.
"An underage boy was approached by an individual who speaks perfect Dutch and was driving around in a grey van," Tervuren police spokesperson Chris Geeraerts told La Dernière Heure.
He added that local police forces were currently using surveillance footage to try to identify the suspect, and that police officers in neighbouring municipalities were encouraged to "remain vigilant".
