The Public Prosecutor’s Office asked the Charleroi Criminal Court on Wednesday to sentence a man to seven years’ imprisonment for raping and sexually assaulting his daughter between the ages of 6 and 13.
The accused, now in his sixties and currently in prison, has also not denied physically assaulting his daughter.
The victim’s partner reported the father’s actions to the Liège police in 2021. “He explained that since 2006, when she was six years old, his partner had been sexually assaulted,” the public prosecutor said. “These acts ended at the age of 13, when she started menstruating.”
At the hearing, the victim confirmed the sexual assaults and scenes of assault and battery that began as soon as the acts of indecency were over. “He’d come and get me in the bedroom to go to his. Meanwhile, Mom was downstairs. He would grope me, penetrate me or force me to masturbate him,” she explained.
In court, the man confirmed the charges, saying he “felt attracted" to his young daughter.
Deputy prosecutor Vervaeren requested a seven-year prison sentence, while the defence requested a reduced prison sentence with probation.
Judgment is expected on 6 December.
