Over €584.5 million are on the accounts of the Central Office for Seizure and Confiscation (COSC), which is a record. This is €110 million more than five years ago, De Tijd reported on Thursday.

This money was seized by magistrates and police services throughout Belgium and will be managed by the COSC pending a decision on their destination.

These figures were part of the response that Minister of Justice Koen Geens (CD&V, Flemish Centre Democrat) gave to MP Stefaan Van Hecke (Groen). Van Hecke questioned the lack of clarity as to the allocation of this money. "Neither the Minister of Justice nor of Finance know where this money will go," Geens said.
