A resident of a retirement home in the Brussels municipality of Woluwe-Saint-Pierre died after a fire broke out in part of the building in the early hours of Friday morning. The news was confirmed by a municipality spokesperson.
“The municipal authorities were informed at 00:55 on Friday that a fire broke out in a room on the third floor of the Parmentier residence, a residence for the elderly, in Woluwe-Saint-Pierre,” the municipality said in a press release.
Although emergency services arrived quickly on the scene, bringing the fire swiftly under control and limiting the blaze to one bedroom, one resident died in the incident.

Other residents of the retirement home, who were evacuated during the rescue operation, have already returned to their apartments, the statement said.
