Cyclist hospitalised after being hit by police car in Brussels

A cyclist was rushed to the hospital in a serious condition after being hit by an unmarked police car in a busy Brussels boulevard on Friday, a police spokesperson said.

The incident took place in Boulevard du Midi at 12:08 PM, Olivier Slosse, a spokesperson with the Brussels-Ixelles police zone confirmed to local media.

The spokesperson said the police vehicle hit the cyclist near 59 Boulevard du Midi.

The unidentified cyclist was hit by an unmarked vehicle belonging to a federal police patrol, in an incident whose circumstances are yet to be determined.

The cyclist's condition is now stable, even though he was said to be in a serious condition when emergency services arrived to the scene to rush him to the hospital.

The man will remain in the hospital for observation and an inquiry has been launched into the circumstances surrounding leading to the incident, the spokesperson said.
