The driver of a vehicle was rushed to the hospital in critical condition on Sunday after losing control of his car and crashing onto the sidewalk in a roundabout in Brussels.

The car, a BMW with a French licence plate, was reportedly going too fast and missed his turn in the roundabout, crashing onto another vehicle whose driver did not sustain serious injuries, according to Bruzz.

"The life of the driver of the vehicle is in danger," Oliver Slosse, spokesperson for the Brussels-Ixelles police zone told the outlet. "The person was taken out of his vehicle but he had lost consciousness."

The accident took place in a roundabout in Avenue Louise at around 7:45 AM.

The vehicle ended up on the sidewalk and, while he caused significant material damage —crashing onto several bollards— no pedestrians were hit.

It has not yet been made clear whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol.
