An air quality alert activated at the start of the heatwave will be lifted on Monday, Brussels environmental authorities said, noting that the last week's high temperatures would start to recede at the start of the week.
With temperatures expected to reach no further than 23 degrees, Interregional Environmental Cell (CELINE, in French) said that the heatwave and high-ozone levels alert activated in June could be lifted, as ozone levels become stable for the period of the year in the Belgian capital.
As the heatwave came to a close, high ozone concentration levels were recorded on Saturday in Belgium, with levels in three northern cities surpassing the European standard of 180 µg/m3.
On Monday, the Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) said the weather will remain dry with a changing sky, and said there was a risk of showers in the southern part of the country.
Temperatures are expected to drop further, reaching a high of 19 degrees in coastal areas and 24 in inland.
