The designation of outgoing Secretary of State of Brussels, Cécile Jodogne (DéFI) as acting mayor of Schaerbeek was confirmed on Thursday morning.

She replaces elected mayor Bernard Clerfayt, who was sworn on Thursday as Brussels’ Minister for Labour, Training and Local Authorities.

At the inauguration of the region’s new ministers, Ms. Jodogne informed the Speaker of the Assembly that she had given up the parliamentary seat she landed on 26 May 2019.

On Thursday afternoon, Clerfayt confirmed that his ministerial appointment had prompted him to designate Jodogne as acting mayor. "I have full confidence in her and I have no doubt that her experience as Brussels Secretary of State is what the commune needs now,” he commented.

Ms. Jodogne stressed that she still had memories of her previous “extraordinary” four-year experience in the post she was now preparing to take up once again in Schaerbeek.
