60 people have been evacuated from a men's shelter in the city centre following a fire on Monday night.
A fire broke out at around 04:00 on Tuesday morning in Home Baudouin on Rue de la Violette. 60 people were evacuated and treated for smoke inhalation on-site.
The blaze started on the ground floor of the four-storey building. By the time firefighters arrived, smoke had spread throughout the building, and the Brussels police had already begun evacuating the residents.
"The fire was quickly extinguished," said fire brigade spokesperson Walter Derieuw. "11 people were checked at the scene and three were put on oxygen after inhaling smoke. No one needed to be hospitalised."
After ventilating the building and checking for carbon monoxide (CO) presence, all residents were allowed to return. The firefighters concluded that the cause of the fire was accidental.
