For the third time in under two weeks, a shooting took place in the Brussels municipality of Molenbeek-Saint-Jean on Sunday night, near the Parc Bonnevie.
The police were called to a possible shooting at Place Voltaire in Molenbeek around midnight, according to the Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office and the Brussels West police. No one was injured, and the perpetrator(s) managed to escape.
"No one was found at the scene, but there were several bullet casings. The investigation is ongoing," the police said.
Previous shootings
On Saturday evening, someone was injured in another shooting in the same neighbourhood. Around 23:00 that night, the police and emergency services were called to Rue du Facteur, where they found a man with a leg injury. The victim was taken to hospital, but his life was not in danger. The suspected perpetrator had fled in a vehicle.
The police found several bullet casings at the scene. The federal police laboratory and a ballistics expert arrived at the scene to investigate.
The week before, on 31 July, a 17-year-old was shot between Rue de l'Ecole and Parc Bonnevie in Molenbeek.
On Tuesday, the Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office will hold a press conference about the various shootings that have shaken the capital in recent days and weeks. During this press conference, an overview of the shootings will be given, as well as the response and measures taken by the authorities.
