A police vehicle collided with a moped during a police chase in Brussels on Thursday evening, according to a report in Bruzz, later confirmed by the capital police.
The accident occurred at an intersection adjacent to Rouppeplein, after the driver of the moped tried to flee. The suspect sustained minor injuries, Belga News Agency reports.
A police patrol had gone after the motorcyclist after spotting him riding without a helmet or license plate. The patrollers wanted to arrest him, but the suspect fled.
“A chase was started by the Brussels-Capital Ixelles police, and the moped collided with the service vehicle,” Sarah Frederickx, spokeswoman for the Brussels South police zone, said. “The driver of the moped suffered minor injuries to the shoulder and the arm.” No officers were injured.
The suspect was taken to hospital for treatment and will be questioned later, the police said.
