Brussels Terrorism Alert: “The European Commission had not received any information concerning specific threats”

“The European Commission had not received any information concerning any specific threats against the Commission” a spokesperson of the European institutions said on Sunday in reaction to information from the Dutch TV channel NOS that indicated that terrorists had planned an attack on the Commission." “Other press related questions have to be addressed to the Belgian authorities”, the spokesperson added. According to the TV channel, the Belgian justice would have evidence that terrorists based in the city of La Haye in the Netherlands had planned an attack targeting the European Commission in Brussels.

The two individuals, a man and a woman of Turkish origin, had been intercepted in the beginning of August on their arrival at Brussels Airport as they were returning from Turkey. They had most probably stayed in Syria.

According to the justice department, the two suspects will be charged for being members in a terrorist organisation, and for arms violation and financing terrorism.
