Brussels - Nicolas Minas sentenced to 20 years for murder

On Tuesday,Nicolas Minas , who was found guilty of murdering Charlotte A., was sentenced to 20 years in prison by the Brussels Court. He had strangled the victim, an 18 year-old young woman  whom he had met in Zanzibar, a cafe in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert, on July 31st, 2011. Nicolas Minas strangled Charlotte A., a young resident of La Louviere, in his home in Anderlecht at dawn just an hour after they met.

According to Minas, he tried to kiss her but she began to scream. Panicked and drunk, he strangled her to keep her quiet out of fear of causing a disturbance in the neighborhood. He said he never intended to kill her.

However, the jury found that Nicolas Minas should have realized that strangling the victim and constricting her thorax could kill her.

After killing the girl, Nicolas Minas then placed her body in a suitcase and threw it in a creek near the "Ronquières ” slope in Ecaussines.

On August 1st, 2011, the day after the murder, he turned himself in to the authorities.
