On Wednesday morning a new suspect was apprehended at his Brussels home as part of the inquiry into the Brabant killers, revealed VivaCité (RTBF) in its 6.00pm edition. The man was questioned by detectives, said the State-owned channel. Police searched the home of Michel Libert in Woluwe-Saint Lambert on Wednesday morning. Michel Libert, one of the leaders of the far-right organisation WNP, active in the 80s, was taken for questioning to the Jumet special investigation unit in Charleroi.
As a professional soldier, and non-commissioned officer, his work as a member of the Signals Corps in Evere enabled him to steal NATO telex communications. He says he did this to demonstrate “their irresponsible attitude to security”, according to VivaCité.
Michel Libert was also in charge of internal security at WNP. This meant he gave out orders to activists, telling them, for example, to monitor access doors to department stores. According to RTBF, the man has been questioned as a witness on various occasions in the past. This time, however, he seems to have been taken in as a suspect.
