Two people carrying drugs intercepted at Brussels Airport

Hal-Vilvorde public prosecutor's department revealed on Saturday that two people found to be carrying drugs were arrested recently at Brussels Airport. The two, a Romanian man in his twenties and a Spanish woman,  were placed under arrest warrant by the investigating judge. The 22-year-old man arrived in Zaventem on Thursday on a flight from Abu Dhabi, with the intention of then travelling to Madrid. Customs officers searched his hand luggage and found several sweet boxes filled with 87 pellets containing drugs, weighing in total 1.5kg. It is still unclear what type of drug the pellets contained.

On Friday, a 44-year-old Spanish woman was also questioned at Zaventem Airport as she got off a flight from Sao Paulo. One of her suitcases was found to have a concealed compartment containing a substance which tested positive for cocaine. The substance, 4.6kg in all, will also be investigated.

The two suspects were brought before the investigating judge, and were charged and remanded in custody.
