Several policemen injured and thirty arrests

Dozens of police officers were injured, two seriously, in incidents that broke out around the national demonstration taking place in Brussels on Thursday. Thirty thugs were arrested, said Christian De Coninck, spokesman for Brussels police. "From the offset, a group of rowdy dockers headed up the demonstration and began to vandalise the area and looking to go head-to-head with the police. Although the police tried to avoid the showdown, towards the end of the protest, around the Midi train station, the group of dockers who had been infiltrated by anarchists, charged at the police, who had to fight back using water cannons and tear gas", he said.

Several shop windows were broken and four cars and a police motorcycle were set on fire. One individual was arrested, continued the spokesman according to whom "all incidents took place outside of the demonstration route."
