Brussels-Ixelles: 1,400 offences on areas reserved for public transport

As per the road safety section of the 2014-2017 zonal plan, the Brussels-Ixelles police precinct paid particular attention, in October, to non-compliance on areas reserved for public transport and issued 65 fines and 714 immediate collections, said a spokesman for the Brussels public prosecutor, on Friday. These are in addition to the 618 fines and immediate collections issued by the bike patrols, the “bikers”.

Furthermore, during the month of October, the bikers issued 546 fines and immediate collections for stopping or parking on bike lanes, 18 for parking on footpaths, 9 for parking on zebra crossings and 19 for non-compliance in pedestrian areas. They also fined 51 motorists for using a mobile phone without a hands-free kit while driving.
