Brussels: police prevent man setting himself on fire on Place Poelaert

On Thursday afternoon, local police were able to stop a man from setting himself alight on Place Poelaert, opposite the Court of Justice in Brussels, reported Belga from the site of the incident. The man was taken to hospital. The reasons for the incident remain a mystery. Criminal lawyer Sven Mary spotted the man on the square. "I was standing in front the courthouse entrance making a phone call when I saw a man on  Place Poelaert spraying himself with liquid from a bottle" said the lawyer.  "I alerted the military personnel nearby but they did not intervene. When I saw that the man sprayed himself again, I alerted two police officers, who immediately stepped in. They managed to take the lighter from him with seconds to spare."

An ambulance was called to the scene, which then transported the man to hospital. It is not yet known whether he was injured or not.
