As a counter-reaction to Black Friday, the City of Brussels is launching its Local Friday action: from 21 November, 42 Brussels shops will offer special promotions.

All participating traders can be found on the platform commercelocal.brussels, developed by the City of Brussels.

"In times when our social networks are flooded with advertising for Black Friday and its mass consumption, the City of Brussels wants to recall the wealth, welcoming attitude and knowledge of its local merchants," said city councillor for Economic Affairs Fabian Maingain.

This will be done through discounts and other promotional actions by those local shopowners and businesses, collected and highlighted by the City of Brussels – including through a large poster at the Bourse, pins and bookmarks, as ecological alternatives to flyers.

This will also be an opportunity for passers-by to (re)discover the neighbourhood in a new light. Most promotions are valid from 25 to 27 November 2022. "This is an important initiative in the run-up to Black Friday and a great way to showcase the many quality shops in our various shopping districts in Brussels," Maingain said.

Additionally, the shops' promotions are quite different, ranging from attending free workshops by stylists to discounts of up to 20% or a free plaid with a purchase of at least €250.
