A history teacher at Dachsbeck College in Brussels has been sacked after making what were judged to be Islamophobic statements on Facebook, the Sudpresse papers and La Dernière Heure reported on Tuesday. In December 2013, the mother of a student complained to the school about the teacher. She found a conversation between the teacher and her daughter, dated February 2012. They talked about religion, and about Islam. He asked her “why choose the religion that has the highest rate of illiteracy and has the highest number of developing and backward countries?” The teacher had been teaching for over 14 years. There had never been any negative reports about him until now. The teacher has appealed the decision.
