A terrorist threat stops an Egypt Air flight leaving Brussels Airport

A terrorist threat stopped Egypt Air flight M5 76 taking off from Brussels Airport on Saturday, the Het Nieuwsblad has reported.

On Saturday evening, federal police said the passenger list and luggage would be more closely examined, due to “uncertainty surrounding a passenger, and as a precaution”.

The paper revealed the plane was unable to take off due to a terrorist threat. The suspect has been questioned: authorities had been surveying him for a while.

The man had hinted something would happen to the plane. The presence of an important European diplomat on board the plane made authorities worry about a terrorist attack.

The plane should have left for Cairo at 15.55pm.

Brussels Airport couldn’t release any more information on Saturday evening.
