More than 2,140 of drugs were seized at Brussels Airport in 2014, compared to 511 in 2013, revealed Paul Verschueren, head of the research section of the Zaventem Airport federal judicial police. He was quoted in the Sudpresse papers on Saturday.
In 2014, smugglers were caught with 412kg of cocaine, 396kg of hashish, 53kg of heroin, 1,226kg of khat, 54kg of marijuana, 4kg of methamphetamine, and 32,848 of XTC and 3kg of another undefined type of drug.
Zaventem police officers arrested 114 people in 2014, an increase of 34% compared to the year before.
