Saint-V gathering at Brussels’ Grand Place cancelled

The Saint-Verhaeghen celebrations scheduled at Brussels’ Grand Place this Friday have just been cancelled, revealed the organisers of the event (ULB-VUB and Brussels City). “The latest threat assessment by the Federal Crisis Centre led them to recommend the cancellation of the gathering scheduled on Grand Place this Friday. Consequently, ULB (French-speaking Free University of Brussels) and VUB (Flemish-speaking Free University of Brussels) authorities as well as the Alderman of the city of Brussels are cancelling the Saint-Verhaegen celebrations scheduled at midday,” said the organisers in a press release. “We urge everyone to follow official security instructions,” added Nicolas Dassonville, from ULB’s communication department.

No information has been given to date on whether speeches scheduled at Brussels’ City Hall to commemorate ULB’s founder will take place.
