The Immigration Office in Brussels has registered nearly 3,850 applications since the beginning of November.
Dominique Ernould, spokesman for the Immigration Office explained on Friday that this week alone, around 250 people a day have sought asylum.
On Monday morning, hundreds of people had come to apply for asylum at the Immigration Office, but the doors were closed because of the terrorist threat.
Moreover, the Immigration Office has been unable to reconvene asylum seekers who they could not welcome into their office on Tuesday, again because of the terrorist threat. Tuesday, 210 people have been able to register.
