After having been questioned today, the perpetrator of the stabbing attack in the Schuman metro station in Brussels European Quarter on Monday evening has been charged with attempted murder and carrying a weapon, announced the Brussels Prosecutor's Office.
While the suspect of the stabbing – a man aged 30 – was already under investigation for attempted murder, the investigating judge on Tuesday confirmed, after questioning the suspect, that he would indeed be charged with attempted murder as well as what is called 'carrying a weapon by intent' in Belgium, announced spokesperson Willemien Baert.
In practice, this means that the man was charged for carrying an object that he intended to use as a weapon and cause bodily harm to others. Additionally, the investigating judge will appoint an expert to conduct a psychiatric examination of the suspect.

"As for the victims, we can say that they are a 25-year-old man (severely injured, still in hospital), a 40-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman (both slightly injured)," Baert said. The Public Prosecutor had previously reported that all victims had left the hospital, but that now appears to be incorrect.
In the interest of the ongoing judicial investigation, the Public Prosecutor's Office will not communicate further about the case.
