Big parade takes place in Brussels centre to mark the Chinese New Year

On Saturday a big parade will be organised in Brussels centre to mark the Chinese new year, the year of the monkey. The event is co-organised with the Embassy of China, the Chinese representation to the European Union and Brussels City with participation of the Chinese community in Belgium.

The festivities begin at the Grand Place on 14H00 on Saturday and the parade continues its course through the city centre. Several artistic groups from Beijing and Shanghai have come to take part in the parade. In total 400 artists participate and the public will be shown traditional Chinese dance, music and martial arts.

To mark the occasion, the city hall will be illuminated in Chinese colours and the Manneken-Pis will be dressed in a traditional Chinese outfit.

“It’s the first time that such a big parade is organised in Brussels”, commented Karine Lalieux, Alderman of Culture for the City of Brussels.
