Brussels attacks: A dozen killed, 70 wounded at Maelbeek metro station

About 70 people were injured in the explosion at Maelbeek metro station. This was confirmed to Belga news agency by Pierre Meys, spokesperson of the emergency services in Brussels. He also announced that a dozen people have been killed, but without confirming the exact figure.

“The explosion was very fierce,” Pierre Meys says. It occurred when a train stopped at Maelbeek station, located in the district of the European institutions.

Help arrived quickly together with a bomb squad. One hundred aid workers have been mobilized to Maelbeek, according to Meys.

A security perimeter was established around rue de la Loi, Maelbeek and Schuman to enable the transport of the victims. Less injured peopled and people in shock were treated in STIB busses or in surrounding hotels.
