Mayor of Forest proposes return to 19 police districts in Brussels

Marc-Jean Ghyssels, the mayor of Forest, responded to requests to a merger of the police districts in Brussels by the Flemish parties. He argued on Friday (8 April) in La Libre Belgique for a return to one police district in each of Brussels 19 communes. Currently there are six police districts in the capital region.

According to the socialist mayor, a return to the old police organization with 19 districts would allow police to gain better knowledge of what is happening on the ground in the communes.

Prosecutors and police would continue to circulate and share information as is currently the case, Marc-Jean Ghyssels claims.

Besides organizational reform, the question whether more and better trained police are needed would also have to be addressed.
