Muhammed Abrini, wanted for the attacks in Paris and Brussels, has been captured. This was announced by VRT and RTBF on Friday afternoon (8 April). According to police sources he was caught in Anderlecht. A second suspect has also been apprehended.

The two TV networks report that Abrini is most likely the “man in the hat” seen in the surveillance cameras in Zaventem airport on the morning of the terror attack. He was also seen on a surveillance camera at a petrol station in Paris with the other suspect Salah Abdeslam

The second person who was captured is Osama K, seen with Khalid El Bakraoui at the Maelbeek metro station. According to RTBF, he would be the person who bought the bags at City2 Shopping Mall which were used in the terror attacks of 22 March.

The federal prosecutor announced on Saturday (9 April) that Abrini has been indicted for participation in a terrorist group and terrorist murders and placed under arrest.

The prosecutor has not yet confirmed that he is “the main in the hat”.
