Operations at Charleroi airport will be closed from 7.15 am until 11.30 am because of shortage of air traffic controllers from Belgocontrol. This is second time in eight days that this happens, said Vincent Grassa, spokesperson for the airport. “We have 10 flights departing and 13 arriving so some 20 flights are concerned,” he said.
The airport is working with the air companies to “reduce the impact to a minimum. We are trying to reschedule their flights.”
Grassa deplores the problems at Belgocontrol that “affect our airport and the passengers. We don’t know what it’s due to, planning or sick leave, but this is the second time in eight days. It’s high time that the management of Belgocontrol solves the problem.”
Staff at Belgocontrol is protesting against the terms of an agreement in a labor dispute.
