Brussels attacks – Mohamed Abrini tried to detonate his explosives at Brussels Airport

Mohamed Abrini, the third terrorist who was present at Brussels Airport, intended to detonate his charge of explosives that he brought with him, but did not manage due to the first explosion. Video images from the airport testify to this theory, the Belgian newspaper “La Dernière Heure” reports.

The first explosion threw him several meters away from the trolley. His bag carried the heaviest explosive charges of the three.

The panic that pursued from the first explosion denied him to execute his plans. Only at this stage Mohamed Abrini decided to leave the airport.

According to La Dernière Heure, the images show how the three terrorists arrived to the airport and first checked the departure screens. Then they walked towards the check-ins that had flights to Israel, Russia and the United States.

The federal prosecutor does not want to confirm the details released by the Belgian newspaper and does not want to disclose "any information on the details of the ongoing investigation".
