Brussels has told the Home Affairs Minister that it wants to take part in a pilot project that allows local police forces to recruit their own officers, La Dernière Heure reported on Saturday. Antwerp is already taking part in this project, and Ghent and Vilvorde also want to take part.
The spokesman for Brussels mayor Yvan Mayeur said the Minister had not yet responded to his request. “One of Yvan Mayeur’s priorities is to have local policing”, he explained.
Charleroi has also said it was interested in the project, but did not have the means to apply.
