Nearly one in five in Belgium face problems with the legal sale warranty

The legal warranty of two years is a real hypocrisy according to Test-Achats. "During the first six months, the consumer is fully covered because the assumption of lack of conformity with product standards is not questioned,” says its spokesperson Julie Frère.

“But after this period, the seller may easily refuse to apply the warranty because it’s up to the consumer to prove that the fault in the product isn´t related to its use.”

Almost 20 % of consumers had a problem with at least one product during the warranty period that spans two years, reported on Thursday (26 May) La Dernière Heure on the basis of figures from the consumer association Test-Achats.

It evokes abuses, "for nearly one in five, who encountered a problem with an item purchased, the application of the warranty has been flatly denied. This is unacceptable," says Julie Frère.
