Brussels attacks - police had requested that departure halls be made secure as far back as December

The police at Brussels Airport had attempted to seek the means to secure the entrance to its departure hall as far back as 5 December. This is reported in L'Avenir on Monday. The Chief Commissioner of the Airport Police possibly “forgot” to relay this request to the airport management.

Agents working in the airport were worried about the staff shortages and the lack of on-site procedures. The police union was requesting passenger checks using walk-through metal detectors and infra-red luggage checks.

The federal police refused to make any comment about this information, saying that they were waiting for the conclusions of the parliamentary inquiry committee.
