Contrary to other sectors the number of bankruptcies increased in the hospitality industry. The business data company Graydon reported on Wednesday (1 June) that there were 879 bankruptcies in Horeca (hotel/restaurant/café) in Belgium since January this year – 34 more than during the same period last year.
The number of bankruptcies increased in Flanders (+ 11.2%) and Brussels (+ 8.5%). In Walloon, however, the number decreased by 12.9%. In total, 1 812 jobs have been lost since January and the trend is clearly pointing to more job losses, according to Graydon.
