Sacrifice Feast: temporary slaughterhouse with qualified butcher and four distribution sites

There will be a temporary slaughterhouse run by a qualified butcher covering the entire Brussels region, when the Sacrifice Feast takes place this coming 11th, 12th and 13th September.
The abattoir will be situated next to the MABRU (the early morning market) site, on land owned by Brussels City Council. This is being made available to the region for the Muslim festival. The Alderwoman for Public Hygiene at Brussels City Council, Karine Lalieux, announced this yesterday (Monday).

Families celebrating the festival will not have access to the site. Sheep will transported via four distribution centres situated in the four chosen communes (Anderlecht, Molenbeek, Schaerbeek and the City of Brussels).

Ms Lalieux (of the Socialist party) declared this during a Brussels City Council meeting. She went further saying that the distribution centre for the City of Brussels will be located close to the temporary abattoir.

The plants are being designed showing due respect for both the requirements for animal welfare and the Muslim religion, in conjunction with several representative Muslim bodies. More precise information will be communicated as the Sacrifice Feast draws nearer.
