Members of Islamist organization will stand trial A year and a half after the conviction of some dozen activists belonging to Sharia4Belgium, a new terrorism trial is expected to take place in Antwerp.
Eight members of the Islamist organization The Way of Life will stand trial, reports the Gazet of Antwerp on Tuesday (12 July).The first hearing is expected this summer.
The radical organization The Way of Life was born in the wake of the dismantling of Sharia4Belgium. The prosecutor opened an investigation of terrorist activities after collecting evidence showing that young people in Antwerp had been incited by key figures in The Way of Life to take part in the war in Syria.
The members were arrested one after another. Most of them had planned to travel to Syria and had already tried to do so.
The investigation of The Way of Life has come full circle. The court of first instance referred on Monday eight members suspected of terrorism to the criminal court. They face prison sentences of up to 15 years.
