352 crimes were committed last year by criminals dressed as police. The figures from the federal police were reported by Sudpresse on Monday (1 August). Most cases were theft or extortion but a few physical attacks were also reported.
The scammers are usually looking for money, jewelry and other valuables and prey on the elderly.
They sometimes use real police uniforms which have stolen or obtained on the black market. Recovery and destruction of old uniforms are not organized systematically.
