Majority of penalties for tax fraud cancelled by Belgian Ministry of Finance

Unprecedented tax pardon in 2015 L'Echo and De Tijd reported on Thursday (11 August) that about 300 tax fraud cases had been pardoned by the Minister of Finance Johan Van Overtveldt (N-VA).

Such a complete or partial approval of requests for cancellation of tax penalties has not happened since 2010. In two thirds of the cases, fines and tax increases were cancelled, according to a parliamentary response.

More than half of the requests came from Wallonia (210 of 386), 66 from Brussels, and 110 from Flanders.
