More than 5,000 transit migrants intercepted in Belgium in six months

Increase from 2015 in undocumented migrants The authorities have intercepted 5,293 transit migrants on Belgian soil during the first half year of 2016. In 2015, 3,917 transit migrants were apprehended throughout the year.

The figures from the Office of Foreign Nationals were published by La Dernière Heure on Friday (19 August).

A transit migrant is defined as an undocumented person who travels through Belgium for another destination. This other destination is most often the United Kingdom and sometimes the Scandinavian countries.
