Woman stabbed three people in Uccle

Prosecutor: It was not a terrorist attack Belga news service reports that a stabbing incident occurred yesterday (22 August) on a bus that was driving on Chaussée de Waterloo in Uccle. A woman stabbed three people on the bus.

The woman, who has been identified as a Philippine national, aged 52, quarreled for some reason with other passengers on the bus and then attacked them with a knife. She is not previously known to the police.

The incident occurred around 4:30 in the afternoon. Two people on the bus were injured. The woman then went off the bus and injured a third person. The three victims were slightly injured and taken to hospital.

The local police arrived at the scene and tried to control the situation. Policemen opened fire at the woman when she refused to obey their orders.

The woman remains hospitalized and has not yet been heard. "Her condition isn’t critical but she was hit twice, in the arm and in the chest," said Ine Van Wymersch, spokesperson for the prosecutor’s office.

It is unclear why the incident occurred. According to Brussels public prosecutor office, it was not a terrorist act but an act by a person with psychological problems.
