A 70 year old woman stopped at Brussels Airport customs with 160,000 euros cash

Customs officers at Zaventem Airport stopped a 70 year old Dutch woman with 161,885 euros cash in her bag. The woman wanted to go to Madrid, and then on to Ecuador. “There is a strong chance this money could be linked to drug trafficking”, the Finance SPF has said.

The money was hidden in a double lining in the bag. . “There is a strong chance this money is linked to drug trafficking. Federal judicial police are looking into it”, the Finance SPF said.

Customs officers often come across people in possession of large amounts of money at Brussels Airport. In July last year, 400,000 euros were confiscated, along with 693,960 euros and 483,665 euros in December. The largest amount of money found this year was 404,166, back in March.
