No casualties reported The prosecution office in Brussels confirms that an explosion occurred last night at the National Institute of Criminalistics and Criminology (INCC) located at Chaussée de Vilvorde in Neder-Over-Heembeeks. No casualties were reported. The investigation is ongoing.
"An investigation is underway to determine the nature of the explosion," said the prosecutor. A press release will be issued soon.
An explosion followed by a fire occurred at the institute around 2:30 am during the night between Sunday and Monday (29 August). According to various media, a ramming vehicle entered the site and one or more individuals planted a bomb there.
The prosecution did neither confirm nor deny the use of a vehicle. Firefighters quickly arrived at the scene and helicopters flew over the area. The damage is significant and Chaussée de Vilvorde was closed to traffic.
