“Islamophobia is a breeding ground for radicalisation” The Collective against Islamophobia in Belgium (CCIB) stated in Le Soir on Monday (5 September) that a “series of Islamophobic events during the Summer is feeding the current climate”.
The organization favors a comprehensive plan against racism and Islamophobia (hatred and prejudice directed against Muslims and Islam).
“Islamophobia is a stepping stone for both the far right and the propaganda of the Islamic State. The repetition of these controversies risks leading to the dismissal of Muslim citizens,” warns Hajib el Hajjaji, Vice- President of CCIB.
He believes that Islamophobia is a breeding ground for radicalisation. “If we want to fight radicalisation, we need a comprehensive plan against racism, including Islamophobia,” he says.
He added that we cannot “remain indifferent to the flood of racist comments on social media”.
