Local police districts will deploy the radars free of charge As of October, the Walloon region will provide eight mobile cameras, Lidars (Light detection and ranging equipment), to the police. For the first time local police districts that request them will be able to use them free of charge, reported Sudpresse on Wednesday (7 September).
The public tender for the acquisition of Lidars is expected to be awarded towards the end of September, said the office of the Walloon Transport Minister Maxime Prévot (cdH). From October, the eight devices should be operational and will be loaned by the week.
The cost of the transaction remains to be determined but it will not be the local police districts that will receive the bill, said the spokesperson for the minister.
