Brussels to host 2017 conflict mediation conference
Conflict zone mediation conference looms in Brussels for 2017.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Didier Reynders, has said that Brussels will hold a mediation conference for parties involved in war zones. This will take place in February 2017. Reynders announced this yesterday (Thursday) in New York.

The 2017 conference will bring together renowned practitioners and experts in the field of European and international mediation, who are active in this sphere.

The objective of this conference is to exchange good practice so as to learn useful lessons from it. In addition it aims to make this essential tool for prevention and peaceful conflict management of crises more effective.

Yesterday morning, the Minister for Foreign Affairs had attended a dinner for the Group of Friends of mediation.

During the week, he had also co-chaired a round table meeting on the fight against the impunity of terrorist groups and an event around the deradicalisation of youngsters and counter-propaganda.

A young employee from the SPF Intérieur and a worker from Molenbeek came to New York to explain the measures they had used to fight against the radicalisation of youngsters.
