Around 12,500 runners are expected to take part in the Brussels Marathon and Half Marathon on Sunday

The 13th Belfius Brussels Marathon and Half Marathon will take place on Sunday the 2nd of October. Around 12,500 runners are expected to be on the starting line. The Half Marathon, with more than 8,000 participants, is the most popular distance, the organisers said on Friday.

After they leave the Parc du Cinquantenaire, the participants will take rue Belliard instead of rue de la Loi. Another change is the finish line for the Half Marathon and 5km distance being on Boulevard Anspach, near the Stock Exchange.

Traffic will be restricted or completely stopped between 8am and 2pm in these areas: rue Belliard, rue Ducale, place des Palais, rue de la Régence, place Poelaert, avenue Lousie (including the tunnels), bois de la Cambre, avenue Franklin Roosevelt (Watermael-Boitsfort direction), chaussée de la Hulpe, avenue Delleur, boulevard du Souverain, avenue de Tervuren, Quatre Bras roundabout (ring-road exit shut from 8.30), Montgomery square, rue de la Loi (in front the Parliament), rue des Colonies and rue de Loxum near the pedestrian area. The place de la Bourse, where the runners will cross the finish line, will also be shut.
