Lufthansa does not guarantee employment at Brussels Airlines after take-over

New business model for Brussels Airlines In an interview to Tijd, extracts of which were published by Echo on Thursday (6 October), Carsten Spohr, head of Lufthansa, said that has is not able to guarantee employment at Brussels Airlines.

The disappearance of Brussels Airlines, to become part of Lufthansa, is not in the agenda, but the name of the air company could change to "an even better and stronger Belgian brand" after 2018, Spohr said to La Libre Belgique.

The CEO stressed that with only fifty aircraft the Belgian company is too small and suffers from some weakness abroad.

To remedy this, the business model of the new Brussels Airlines will include a pan-European level in cooperation with Eurowings. Its African network will also be extended.

No guarantees could however be given as regards employment, Carsten Spohr said, recalling that it is the same in Germany.
