Brussels attacks – The government wants a memorial to the victims

The Federal government wants a monument to the victims of the terrorist attacks to be erected in Brussels. They want it to be finished by the 22nd of March 2017, one year after the Brussels attacks. Bidding for this project was opened recently.

This Federal government initiative will also involve Brussels regional authorities and Brussels city authorities.

The maximum budget for the project is 100,000 euros, according to the design brief. Submissions have to be in by the 1st of December.

It is not yet known where this monument will be. A first draft of the design brief mentioned the Parc du Cinquantenaire, but it was not included in the latest version. The Prime Minister’s cabinet said the document was still being looked at.

The attacks on the Brussels metro and Zaventem airport left 32 people dead and 350 injured.
